Apple iOS 7 Release Date May Coincide With iPhone 5S, iPad 5

Apple iOS 7 Release Date May Coincide with iPhone 5S, iPad 5; Features Said to Include Completely Redesigned Visuals

Apple promises to release a new version of iOS each year, so with iOS 7 expected to be released sometime in 2013, users are wondering when they can expect the latest mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Many expect Apple to follow its same iOS release pattern from the last few years and reveal iOS 7 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, but Daring Fireball’s John Gruber said iOS 7 is “running behind” schedule, which means the new mobile software may not be ready for its purported reveal date in June.

“What I've heard: iOS 7 is running behind, and engineers have been pulled from OS X 10.9 to work on it,” Gruber said in a Branch chat with several Apple reporters on Tuesday. “Let me know if you’ve heard this song before.”

Of course, Gruber is referring to 2007, when Apple had to “borrow some key software engineering” resources from its Mac OS X team to work on iPhone software. FOX anchor Clayton Morris also said he'd heard "from engineers who've been moved off of their current 'non-profit generating projects' in order to work on the high priority software projects."...Read more.

Apple iPhone 5 scores stunning success, selling faster than any other handset

Apple Inc fans queued around city blocks worldwide on Friday to get their hands on the new iPhone 5, pointing to a strong holiday season for the consumer device maker despite grumblings about the mapping app in the new smartphone.

The iPhone 5 — thinner, lighter and with a 4-inch screen — went on sale in stores across Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia, with mobile carriers reporting record demand that looked likely to stretch Apple’s supply capacity.

“The line for the iPhone 5 was 70 per cent greater than the line for the iPhone 4S despite Apple taking two (times) as many online pre-orders,” said Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. He expects Apple to sell 8 million of the new smartphones over the weekend.

The long lines of excited buyers prompted optimism on Wall Street. Deutsche Bank raised its target on Apple stock to $850 from $775, saying “demand indicators are tracking very strongly.”

The iPhone is Apple’s highest-margin product and accounts for half of the company’s annual revenue. Apple shares were up 0.5 per cent to $702 in afternoon trading in New York.

JPMorgan estimates the phone could provide a $3.2 billion boost to the U.S. economy in the fourth quarter — a boost almost equal to the whole economy of Fiji.

Apple’s rival and component supplier, Samsung Electronics Co, tried to spoil the party, saying it plans to add the iPhone 5 to its existing patent lawsuits against Apple. Read more...

iPhone 5 Release - Apple iPhone 5 Creates Excitement Nationwide

iPhone 5
People all over the United States waited in line throughout the night for the release of the iPhone 5. In Augusta, people began lining up around midnight for stores that opened at 8 a.m.

"It's like Christmas," said Jovonda Mcneil.

"I got here at midnight last night," added Joshua Suarez, who was the first one in line at the Verizon Wireless store on Robert C. Daniel Parkway.

Many devoted iPhone fans lined the sidewalks in anticipation.

"I've had every iPhone that's came out, so I'm ready for the iPhone 5," said Brandon Phipps.

The stores are ready, too.

"We're expecting a lot of customers, a lot of lines, a lot of people coming in," said District Manager Stephan Swafford. "We've had a lot of people pre-order, so that's been very good as well."

In fact, over 2 million people across the country pre-ordered the iPhone 5 in just 24 hours.

"We expect it to be a very hot phone, a very exciting phone," Swafford said.

All that excitement comes from the upgraded design and features.

"I like the fact that it has a larger screen and 4G technology," Suarez said.

"The 4G technology, the bigger screen, you'll be able to Facetime over 3G instead of just using Wi-Fi," Phipps said.

One of the newest features with the updated software is a new mapping program. Instead of using Google Maps, it now has a 3D Apple Maps system that's getting a little bit of mixed reaction.

"I like it," said Gerrad Mitchell. "I wasn't a big fan of Google Maps. I haven't really used this to go anywhere yet, but just the mechanics of it seems a little bit smoother."

But not everyone agrees.

"It's like they're still trying to catch up a little bit," Mcneil said…
